Joseph's Tweet read, "you guys keep asking me to use my platforms. feels good to dust these bad boys off.", which apparently meant as a fire-back at his fans - they want him to use Twitter to raise social issues and he purposefully used it to pose and show off cool shoes.

It caused some huge blow-back. Huge fan of twenty one pilots, Theo (@sunnwillrise), showed anger immediately, calling his behavior "very VERY low and disrespectful in so many levels". Information accounts of twenty one pilots, @topupdating, @topupdated, @TOPUPDATERS and @DiscordClique expressed their discontent as well. @topupdating replied the tweet with "dust off that notes app for your apology." and posted a long thread directed at Joseph because he "hit a new low"; @topupdated said "If you don’t see an issue with any of @tylerrjoseph’s tweets, you are part of the problem."

Joseph responded by posting a link to American Foundation for Suicide Prevention and discussed mental health issues but decided to defend his "platform tweet" by calling it "fantastic" and made it clear it was not an apology.

It upset followers again. @DiscordClique said text channels would be shut down until Joseph "explicitly state(s) ... support of BLM". @TOPUPDATERS said they will remain inactive until "an apology is issued". @topupdating asked, "Whose side are you on?"

Joseph later apologized for hurting anyone and said the words "Black Lives Matter".
